I think we had mixed feelings when we left Calais on the ferry. Part of me was sad because I love France – it’s so beautiful – but the other side of me was really looking forward to going back to England and not having to think in French all the time!

So as we powered on towards the famous White Cliffs – we had a train ride down to London, onto the tube from Charing Cross to Liverpool and then another train up to Bishop’s Stortford and we’d be back in Essex.

Only problem was getting from Bishops to Great Bardfield – our ultimate destination. Turned out a bus and then a taxi was the only way and so after leaving France at 9am we arrived at Bucks House (aka Poston Manor!) almost 11 hours later.

Lucky for us, Peter & Nessie have the most beautiful house and you can see why it’s got a good reputation as a B&B.

We were very spoiled and got the 4 poster room, while the girls had been living it up for a few weeks already up in the attic!

If you ever want a weekend away in Essex – this is the place to stay.

Look at this for a Sunday roast!

It’s been 13 years since we were last in London and some things have changed a lot, some will never change. The biggest thing is how clean the city is, particularly the tube.

We guess this is mainly due to the bombings and possibly the upcoming Olympics. The tube is absolutely spotless – not even gum on the ground! The downside is you have to carry your rubbish with you everywhere because there are no bins!

We had a 3 day London Pass which allows you unlimited transport on the tube, buses etc and entry to a massive list of sights, museums, historic buildings etc. 3 days is not a long time so we tried to fit in as much as possible and walked like we’ve never walked before.
